The AvTurf team consists of civil and U.S. military aviation
professionals specializing in airfield operations, maintenance and safety. Our
experience comes through decades of airport certification inspections, disaster
drills, accident investigations, maintenance, and safety programs. With the
addition of experts in synthetic fiber composition, manufacturing and
installation, we have successfully pooled our ideas and experiences to design
and implement the first-ever artificial turf for airports.

Tim Connelly
Prior to joining, Tim served as an engineer with Galaxy Scientific
Corporation’s Aviation Safety & Security Technologies Division. Tim has worked
on significant safety and security contracts for the Federal Aviation
Administration, the Transportation Security Administration, the United States
Customs Service and the Department of Homeland Security.
His work on the Galaxy’s Aviation Safety contracts for the FAA included
creating a database for Advisory Circular 150/5300-13 of over 800 different air
carrier and civil aircraft with 40 different aircraft characteristics. This
will be used to facilitate improvements in signage placement and obstacle
mitigation in airport design. He was also responsible for updating and
modifying the method of calculating runway length used in Advisory Circular
150/5325-4B: Runway Length Requirements for Airport Design. His most recent
project for the FAA has been the development of the Engineering Brief/Advisory
Circular for Airside Applications for Artificial Turf.
His work on Galaxy’s Aviation Security contracts has included assisting in the
development of the Threat Image Projection Library (TIP) and the Weapons of
Mass Destruction (WMD) Image Library. Tim assisted with the construction of the
ECOS3™ Secure Luggage and ECOS3™ Hardened Narrow-Body Aircraft Protection
Containers. He also has been involved in aviation security test and evaluation
(T&E) programs involving X-ray luggage scanners, walkthrough metal detectors,
and hand wands. In addition, he has been involved in the testing of new or
enhanced devices and systems for explosives detection. |

Daniel McSwain
Education: BS in Finance from the University of Oklahoma, awarded additional
degrees in Applied Sciences and Avionics Technology.
Experience: Honorably completed six-year commitment as an avionics technician
in the United States Air Force. Promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Awarded
Air Force Commendation and Achievement Medals.

Ron Diggs
Ron offers a background filled with organizational leadership and compliance experience. During the 1990’s, he worked for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, rapidly advancing to serve as the Probation and Parole Coordinator and ultimately an Assistant District Supervisor over a 14-county area. Most recently, Ron was Director of Operations for Matador Processors, a frozen food manufacturer in Oklahoma, where he worked extensively with federal and state regulatory agencies.
Earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Oklahoma in 1992 and a Master of Science in management from Southern Nazarene University in 1996, Ron is now developing his concept paper in preparation for the dissertation process of his Doctor of Business Administration with Northcentral University.
Ron is also a Lieutenant (O-3) in the United States Navy Reserve with multiple specializations in the Intelligence field. He has served at the staff level with the 7th Fleet, performed counter-IED operations in Iraq, and supported anti-terrorism efforts with allied nations. Additionally, Ron is an advanced SCUBA diver working toward his master diver certification. |

Elizabeth Matarese
Elizabeth Matarese is the Director, Consulting Services. Ms. Matarese retired from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in September 2006 and joined AvTurf LLC, providing safety and regulatory experience as an airport certification specialist, accident investigator, and program analyst. She was responsible for writing and researching the briefing papers on airport issues for the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, the FAA Administrator, and the Associate Administrators. Ms. Matarese holds certificates as an instrument flight instructor SEL/ME and ground instructor and was assigned to the Citation 560 in the FAA Flight Group.
Prior to FAA, she was the Director of General Aviation for the State of Maryland, responsible for technical and financial assistance to the state’s airports, and the state pilot. She has an A.B. from Rutgers University and an M.A. degree from the University of New Hampshire. |
